If you’re staying in Morocco hotels near the city of Marrakesh then make sure you pay a visit to the Almoravid Koubba, which is the oldest building in the city. It is also the only building which survives from the city’s Almoravid era, an era in which the Almoravids, monastic-warriors from what is now Mauritania conquered their homeland and expanded to Morocco. During this dynasty the koubba was built although it wasn’t excavated until much later on in 1952. The ground level of Marrakesh has risen over the centuries and visitors must now descend two flights of stairs to visit the entrance. The building is so important because the style is at the route of all Moroccan architecture, with motifs of pine trees and palms. You can visit it daily between 9am and 1pm and then again from 2.30pm until 6pm. The admission cost is 10dh. You’ll find the koubba at Place de la Kissaria.
